"The Forest" is my first attempt to take the Matt Pike, High on Fire, Sleep influences and add them to my songwriting. My songwriting is typically Blues/Rock with some small elements of Prog Rock. I was looking to expand on those elements and add an extreme sub genre of Metal that I've been listening to more these days - DOOM Metal.
DOOM Metal is typically slow tempos, low tuned guitars, a thick "wall of sound" and heavier lyrical topics.
I also experimented more with the mixing of this song. I've been listening to the Tool albums mixed by Joe Barresi especially their most recent collaboration "Fear Inoculum". Joe is a master at creating space in his mixes by pushing and pulling different elements in his mixes. He achieves an incredible amount of motion and depth for the listener. I'm trying to use some of his techniques in my mixes.
I hope you enjoy this first demo. I'll be adding another song "Digging a Hole" very soon.
Leave me a comment on what you think about "The Forest"
Thanks for listening!

Witches chant and laugh at me
Listen closely hear them sing
Breaking bones and sharpening teeth
Gom jabbar feel it's sting
In The Forest
The Forest
Full moon bright night like day
Evil creature spreads its wings
Wolf is hunting for his prey
His cold eyes see all of these things
In The Forest
The Forest
Praying underneath the trees
Hear the sound of weeping
Rising up from my knees
Forgotten son takes his beating
In The Forest
The Forest
Son of Jackal it's your turn
A new dawn a new word
Set the fire let it burn
Feel the power Sorcerer
In The Forest
The Forest
In The Forest
The Forest

Nice work as always! I really appreciate your ability to do ALL of the things when you make music. I can't make my stuff sound like Joe Barresi either, but by doing everything yourself I think it is better, because it is really you in every way possible. 100 years from now, you will be even more glad you did it this way.
Every studio has to have a "big speaker" option. When people come over that is always the first thing they want to hear. That Tool album is my current (even though it is somehow now a few years old) go to recording too.
I hope you have a great day.
Thanks for listening and the words of encouragement Steven!
I really appreciate having this platform to lay my music out for others to enjoy. I’m going to be putting a lot more songs up in the coming months.
I think Tool has a new album in the works. Until then I’m anxious for the 50th Anniversary of Punk Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”. They re-released the original album but they’re also releasing demos from that session and a 1975 Live show. Dec 12 is release date on the demos and live show.
Have a Great Weekend!
