"Mississippi King" is my tribute to the late Leslie West of Mountain.

    Listen to the wind

the songs they sing are all about you

    He's Mountain Climbing

Thru the wind and snow the sunn still glows

    the heavens they call you

    He's Mountain Climbing

    Never in my life

have I been so far away from you

    He's Mountain Climbing

    Big guitars and lonely stars

    keep on shining thru

    He's Mountain Climbing

    Guitar Solo

The Masters of War come thru the door

    from the land of cotton

    He's Mountain Climbing

    The Mississippi King is gone

    but never forgotten

    He's Mountain Climbing

    Outro Guitar Solo

Written, Mixed, Produced and Mastered by Arlo Tarr

This was the first song I recorded in my home studio. I used the Joe Satriani Collection in Amplitube 5 for the guitar tones.

This is the re-mixed version with the presets that Joe created in 2021.

I put a Tom Scholz inspired section in the middle. Joe used to use the Rockman X-100 in his recordings. Tom was the inventor behind those units. Tom put together the first Boston demos in his basement and got a record deal with this homemade demo. Very inspiring for us home recording enthusiasts. Thank you for that inspiration Tom!

I wrote this song after Sunday Jam #14. Quite awhile ago now. I was using Amplitube 4 back then. This is re-mixed with Amplitube 5.

This was an attempt to sound like Gov't Mule with some David Gilmour solos.

I also tried to hint at some King Crimson aggression. Not sure if I accomplished that. There's always next time.

    I keep holding on

Holding on to the world I know

But the air is full of static

    The people they are manic

The time has come for me to let go

    The leaves are falling down

    Burning on the ground

    Politicians turning into stone

    All their foolish banter

    The wicked share their laughter

and nothing will ever fill their souls

    Mountains Never Die

    The leaves will turn again

    Watch you all your life

Watch you lose and seldom win

    I can hear a countdown

and I run to see what's going on

The mission it is ready now, am I ready now

The wormholes open up to more

    A new world is unbound

    Stranger than what's hear now

I can feel it, pulling me thru the stars

    Step on to new ground

with a new world all around

And a new chance, to fulfil our destinies

    Mountains Never Die

    The leaves will turn again

    Watch you all your life

Watch you lose and seldom win

    Solo

    Mountains Never Die

    The leaves will turn again

    Watch you all your life

Watch you lose and seldom win

    Mountains Never Die

    The leaves will burn again

    Watch you all your life

Watch you lose and never win

    Loaded Gun

This song is a strong contender for my Sunset Sound recording session. I love playing solos over the middle and outro sections. The middle solo I was definitely pulling from Warren Haynes and the outro

I started slipping into my Robert Fripp mode. I like trying to draw from 2 different stylistic guitar approaches for solos in a song. It makes it interesting. I hope you like it.

She waited for you til after the show

Waited for the lights to get real low

Old blue eyes was spreading the news

The old bartender knew this boy was about to lose

Nobody told you that she's a loaded gun

Nobody told you that she's a loaded gun

    Off she goes

You took her back home, be safer that way

Pulled her in close when she whispered your name

It felt like she wanted you like no one had before

Better open your eyes boy, she's about to bring in the storm

Nobody told you that she's a loaded gun

Nobody told you that she's a loaded gun

    Off she goes

She's coming on strong, killin the fear

She makes you feel good then things start to disappear

Ain't it a shame, the way it has to end

But that's the way, when the bottle's your only friend

Nobody told you that she's a loaded gun

Nobody told you that she's a loaded gun

    No

    Off she goes

    Off she goes

    Off she goes

    Off she goes

I was shooting for a Little Feat/Lowell George sound on this one. I'd love to get horns on this. I think by adding the TRacks Space Delay to the middle solo that I got the slide guitar to sound close to a trumpet.

    Fun song to play!

Never been rich, never been poor

Always had enough money in my pocket, to keep me from being bored

I wasn't born with connections like you

I try to do my best make a dollar or two

Don't you worry about what you don't have

    I got a Hustle and a Plan

Pack our bags, book our flight

Head on down to the Rainbow bar, settle in for the night

We're done complaining, we're gonna figure this out

All you have to do is stand there looking pretty and the boys will jump and shout

Don't you worry about what you don't have

    I got a Hustle & a Plan

    Slide Guitar Solo

Set up a meetin', set up a score

Walk in here with a whole lot a money but we'll leave with a whole lot more

Hold onto your secrets, we're gonna make a stand

Straighten all the crooked characters out, give em my back hand

Don't you worry about what you don't have

    I got a Hustle & a Plan

"Loaded Gun" is currently my favorite song that I've written. I'm going to try and finish some others for my Sunset Sound session but I think this will be the one.

I really like the middle guitar solo. I can't wait to play this song with the band.

Please consider buying this song. All proceeds go into my recording session costs. I appreciate your support! Thank you!!!

The drum intro sounds huge.  Woody would like that bass line also!  Good job!

Mule is playing in New Haven at the end of the month. I really want to go but I got a lot going on right now with this house buy. Hope to see Warren and the boys soon.

Thanks for checking out the song Hex!
