I found a Music Mentor!

I started this blog up so I can share my musical journey with you. I had a really good day today!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about my “music career”. Why is it I’m succeeding at my regular job and not in music? Why isn’t music more a part of my daily life?

Then I started thinking, what have I done at my regular job that I haven’t with music? I succeed there but not in music.

The answer SLAMMED me in the face! Why was this not obvious to me? I don’t have a music mentor. I don’t have someone that’s done the things in music that I want to do.

I have it in my retail life. I’ve worked with awesome leaders at The North Face, Patagonia, Smartwool, Zamberlan, Lowa and my boss at The Outdoor Sports Center. They’ve all shared with me the knowledge on how to run a successful specialty outdoor retail business. I learned from those who already had succeeded in this space.

So why not use that method of mentorship in my music career? Well that’s what I’ve done!

In November, I started corresponding with Matt Starr. Matt is a NEXT LEVEL musician!  He’s played on albums and toured with professional musicians. He’s played with Ace Frehley, Mr. Big, Kix and a bunch of other pro musicians. Matt also does music business coaching.

Matt and I have talked on the phone about my music plan for 2024. He likes my plan. The main thing I need to do is ACT. Stop procrastinating and do the things to get to the NEXT LEVEL.

So Matt is going to put drums on my songs for my upcoming EP. Once that’s done, then I’m going to promote my EP. I’m going to get some coaching from Matt on how to make my music career as successful as my regular job.

I had a good talk with Matt today about the first song he’s laying drums on. I had a good day today because I realized I finally found what I’ve been missing. My MUSIC MENTOR! Find yours! Learn from those who are doing what you want to do!
