Launching the Pre-Buy for my EP “The Archetect”
Next week I’m officially launching the Pre-Buy for my EP “The Archetect”. If you would’ve told me 5 years ago that this is what I’d be doing now I would’ve laughed you off.
5 years ago I was picking up the guitar maybe once a month or less. I hadn’t been going to very many concerts and I wasn’t listening to much music.
Then a good friend of mine, Danny Gillan, who used to roadie for my band Jack’s Farm gave me a call. “Hey Arlo, I’m driving tour bus for Dale Watson and we’ll be in your neck of the woods do you want to come to the show?” “Hell yeah” I said! I love Dale Watson. My dad got me into Dale. Dale plays that “real” country music that you don’t hear much anymore.
So I got to the club and Danny got me in. I watched a great show. It was just great to see Danny again and reminisce some about the old days playing music town to town. After the show, Dale came over to us after he finished signing autographs. “So you’re Danny’s buddy” Dale inquired. “Yeah I am, it’s nice to meet you Dale” I replied. “Do you like Lone Star beer?” Dale asked.
“I like any kind of beer Dale” I replied. “Well let’s go! I got a bunch on the bus” Dale stated. So we went on to his tour bus and threw back some Lone Star. We talked for quite awhile about music and writing songs. Dale was telling me how much it all meant to him to play and how playing music just had to be fun for him. “If it ain’t fun, then it’s just work Arlo” he said.
I got off the bus after talking way too long. The next day I picked up my guitar and wrote a song. It was the first song that I had finished in a long time.
Little did I know that writing that song was the first of a series of events that led me to writing this EP.
Since then I played a reunion show with Jack’s Farm, put together a home studio, learned how to record my demos at home, mix my songs after tracking them, started a YouTube channel, flew to LA and recorded at Sunset Sound and made a bunch of music connections.
I feel like something exciting is happening. I’m having fun. It ain’t work Dale.
